As we’re hoping you’re well aware, the Ontario government passed Bill 148 in late 2017, with some pretty big changes now here that affect how we run payroll and pay our staff. These changes will likely come with some unintended consequences both for small businesses and the people who the changes were meant to benefit. Whether you’re running payroll or not, we’re all going to be affected by Bill 148 in one way or another.
What is Bill 148? A lot of people have no idea until you mention that it’s the legislation that increases minimum wage in Ontario to $14/hour effective Jan 01/2018, and $15/hour effective Jan 01/2019.
It’s a lot more than that. While we’ve all heard about the increases to minimum wage, there were other legislative changes that came into effect as part of the Bill, many of which most people we speak to haven’t heard about.
You are invited to join us for a free presentation in our Kanata office where we will go over the main changes to the Ontario Labour Standards Act and how they are likely to affect you, your employees, and your business. A discussion period will follow the presentation where you will be welcome to ask questions that apply to your specific situation, and a handout detailing what you need to know will be made available.
