Running a business is busy enough – your bookkeeping shouldn’t slow you down!
Here are some bookkeeping tips to help you save time and money…
1) Keep a deposit book
Trust us—figuring out what makes up your deposits after the fact is way more work than tracking it as you go.
2) Stay organized (ditch the shoebox method)
Keeping documents sorted by month = less time (and $$) spent on bookkeeping.
3) Do what you can yourself
Handling your own invoicing + payments (hello QuickBooks!) keeps you current on your cash flow and saves time.
4) Ask for help early
Fixing messy books costs way more than doing it right from the start. If you’re unsure – reach out sooner, not later!
5) Keep business & personal separate
Mixing the two = more work, more confusion… and potential audit headaches.
6) Keep your receipts
No receipt = not tax deductible
Plus, you’ll need them if the CRA ever comes knocking.
7) Simplify your accounts
The more accounts and cards you have, the more time it takes to reconcile everything. Keep it simple!
8) Pay remittances on time
Late payments = penalties + interest (and it adds up FAST). Keep that money in your pocket instead.
A little organization now can save you a lot later.
