Meet the Bookkeepers
With almost 200 years of combined, practical accounting experience, we are pleased to provide CFO-quality bookkeeping services for the price of a regular bookkeeper.
Patti Saulnier is the President of Accountapotamus. Prior to founding the company, Patti spent 10 years as Controller for two Ottawa-based IT Consulting companies and has over 30 years of practical accounting experience in multiple industries, including but not limited to professional services, training, management consulting, trades, engineering, medical, construction, aerospace, and security. She has used her background and talents to write and develop exceptional Accounting, Payroll, and QuickBooks courses, and is a very knowledgeable and engaging instructor.
Patti is very passionate about empowering fellow business owners and loves to write and travel when time allows. She is an Intuit Pro Advisor and QuickBooks Trainer, and currently serves on the Board of Directors with the West Ottawa Board of Trade, after serving for the last few years on the Boards of Directors for the Carleton Place & District Chamber of Commerce and Greater Nepean Chamber of Commerce (Treasurer).
Heather McCormick is a Senior Bookkeeper with 15 years of accounting experience, over eight of which have been spent with Accountapotamus. She is currently attending part-time studies in forensic accounting and is pursuing her CGA. She enjoys working in the accounting field, loves a challenge, and is our Go-to-Girl for pretty much anything. You can always count on Heather to dive in and tackle any project, no matter how big or small, with tenacity and a smile. She has mastered the art of paying attention to detail in an environment where accuracy and trust mean everything.
Heather is a chocoholic who enjoys hiking and artistic pursuits including drawing and crafting. From calendar design to Easter Egg hunts to rappelling down office buildings with a gigantic stuffed hippo strapped to her back to making sure Patti eats every day (Thanks, Mom!), she’s one of the most thoughtful, dependable, and loyal people we know. Ask her about Shoes That Start Conversations!
Paula Pappin is a Senior Bookkeeper and the Accounting Manager of Accountapotamus, with over 18 years of accounting experience. Paula has worked with various small businesses including automotive, consulting, landscaping, construction and customer service industries. The success of reconciling her first bank statement was what solidified her interest in bookkeeping.
Paula is the proud mother of two teenage girls. As avid competitive dancers, she spends most of her free time at her daughters’ dance studio cheering them on and volunteering. She also loves cooking, going for walks and spending time at the cottage.
Michelle Linnen is a Senior Bookkeeper with Accountapotamus and has over 15 years of accounting experience. Michelle is one of our not for profit and charitable bookkeeping specialists. With years of experience in the not for profit sector, she has developed a passion to help organizations by providing reliable accounting services, freeing them up to focus on their purpose and mission. Michelle loves lists (and highlighters), keeping track of the details and her goal is to know her client files inside and out.
Michelle is married to her College sweetheart and they have two young adult sons. She is a lover of great coffee and spending time with family or friends. In her spare time you might find her working on a home decor project, baking up a storm or spot her walking or cycling on the TransCanada Trail.
Joy Laughland is a Senior Bookkeeper with Accountapotamus and has over 15 years of bookkeeping experience. Joy is one of our not for profit and charitable bookkeeping specialists. She has worked with many types of small businesses and enjoys keeping her clients’ records straight. One of her strengths is being able to make sense of muddled messes and she gets excited when everything balances!
Joy loves time spent outdoors, especially hiking, camping, kayaking and trail running. She also enjoys time with her family and friends, which is usually accompanied by good food. Joy loves traveling as a way to see and experience many different cultures and food. She has the philosophy that you should try everything at least once, and her energetic personality is reflected in her name!
Carol Shaw is a Bookkeeper with Accountapotamus and helps lead our not for profit team. She enjoys helping people organize their finances and comes to us after preparing personal income tax returns for a locally owned accounting firm. Carol is always looking for efficiencies in processes and maximizing money in the clients’ pocket.
Carol met her husband in high school, but asked him to patiently wait 4 years while she completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree with honours at the University of Guelph. They have 4 adult children and a beautiful granddaughter. After teaching school for 20 years, Carol returned to school herself to study income tax. Carol enjoys gardening, refinishing furniture, milling lumber and snapping candid photos.
Johanne Dery is a Bookkeeper with Accountapotamus and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Ottawa University. After working in both the private and public sector in Program Management, Johanne elected to go back to school to focus on her love of numbers and obtained an Accounting certificate from Algonquin College.
She is married to her high school sweetheart and has a teenage son who is a provincial level gymnast. She enjoys the outdoors, going on cruises, cooking and baking.
Anne McEwen comes to Accountapotamus with over 30 years of experience, primarily in the healthcare field. (How can that be possible when she tells people she is only 29? We don’t ask.) Her area of expertise is payroll and she loves to tell everyone how fun it is to produce Records of Employment using the ROE Web application. Even though her undergraduate degree is in Political Science/English, she has been drawn to financial services since her first summer job working in a Payroll office.
The title that she wears with the greatest pride is that of Mom to her amazing 11-year-old son. Along with trying to stay fit, Anne loves knitting, gardening, reading and creating chaos in the kitchen.
Colleen Currie is a Senior Bookkeeper with Accountapotamus and has over 25 years of accounting experience, mainly in the construction and trades industries. She is a reconciliation specialist and most enjoys the analytical part of the bookkeeping process.
Colleen uses her common sense approach to communicate financial matters to non-financial people in a way that makes sense and leads to better decision-making. She takes the time to learn our clients’ businesses inside and out to find how to best meet their needs. She is an avid cyclist, runner, and amateur home renovator.
Cody Helem is our data entry expert and jack of all trades at Accountapotamus. He helped with our move to Kanata, catered and served at our open house, delivers our advertising and does the data entry for most of our catch up clients. He’s ready to tackle any task we throw his way and is an absolute pleasure to work with.
Cody has a certificate in Media and Communications from Algonquin College and is currently taking French lessons so he can become bilingual. You might recognize him as your favourite redhead from the Prescott Sports Bar and Restaurant where he also works part-time. He enjoys hiking, camping, playing video games, and spending time with his girlfriend and their dogs.
Myriah Saulnier is our Business Manager, Director of Fun and Patti’s Best Kept Secret. She has been with Accountapotamus since its inception and has wicked fast and accurate data entry skills. A Master Organizer, she doesn’t even wince when we present her with years of receipts in big green garbage bags, making short work of getting them ready to bring a client’s files up to date. She is always armed with a smile.
Myriah has an honours diploma in Journalism from Algonquin College and is a freelance writer for a number of Canadian travel magazines. She enjoys the outdoors, her two dogs, spending time with her friends and family, and exploring the world around her, one fascinating story at a time.
